New Convert: Dionisia!

Last week we stayed in San Pedro Sula until Friday, because we were expecting a couple brethren from the States to stop in Quimistan that day and preach for us. Daniel suffered a few days from allergies and a general lack of sleep. He has a condition which causes him to feel incredibly ill when he doesn´t sleep well (Wednesday he spent half the day laying in the bathroom floor). I used the extra time in SPS to take care of some State-side stuff. Thankfully, Daniel recovered and Friday we left for Quimistan. Unfortunately, a last-minute change was made to the agenda of the visiting brethren, and they ended up going to Omoa instead of Quimistan. We found out about 10 minutes before our worship began Friday night, so I had to jot down some quick notes on Mark 2:1-17 and preached somewhat impromptu. Daniel, Digna and I all felt very disappointed, mainly for the young Christians in the church. We had changed the meeting time from Thursday to Friday and almost the whole church had come o

The past several days were very productive. We had several Bible studies in the homes of brethren and those outside the body of Christ. Our first stop was at the home of sister Blanca and (former) brother Moises. Moises left the church about a month ago because he wanted to be part of a church that included applause in the worship. We talked with Blanca at her home for about an hour, waiting for Moises to arrive so we could talk with him. Once we decided to leave we saw Moises on the path to his house, stopped to chat with neighbors. He told us he had seen our car parked by the river and we deduce he had decided to avoid going home so he wouldn´t have to talk to us. Blanca and Moises have 8 children and live in a corrugated metal hut. As Daniel said later, it is sad to see people who have nothing rejecting the source of spiritual riches. Blanca remains faithful, however. Next we visited brother Alex. He had missed a few services lately and we wanted to see how we could help him. Wh

This is my first blog post from Honduras. The Powers Ferry Road Church of Christ has agreed to support me to live and work with Daniel Mejivar and his family here in San Pedro Sula/ Quimistan for 3 months, from February 1-the end of April. Last week was very busy. My flight arrived at the SPS airport late Monday night (so late in fact, Daniel and his daughter Michelle thought they had missed me). Tuesday and Wednesday were spent taking care of some errands and being shown the ropes around here. Wednesday night we visited our sisters Paquita and Mariita. Paquita´s son is suffering from serious mental problems and she must provide constant care for him, which requires her to miss worship frequently, a fact she regrets. Thankfully she was able to visit the church in Quimistan this past Sunday. Thursday we headed to Quimistan. Every week, we will be living in the Mejivars´ actual home, in San Pedro Sula, Sunday evening-Thursday morning, and we will be staying in a rented house in Quimi
